THE UNDOMESTIC GODDESS, by Sophie Kinsella

You will enjoy this book if...
a) you're a girl - b) you have enjoyed other Kinsella's books - c) you like it when the main character is stuck in an impossible situation - d) you need a good laugh

You won't enjoy this book if...
a) you're a man - b) you're very serious about what you read and won't lose your time if it is not pure literature.

The plot:
Samantha is an attorney in London. She lives for her job, works 7/7, 24/24. Then she gets the sack - and gets into such a state of shock that she jumps on the first train and ends up in the countryside. Asking for directions at a big house, she is mistaken for a housekeeper... and finds herself accepting the job, without mentioning she is an attorney! The trouble is, Samantha cannot cook. She cannot clean. She cannot iron. She cannot use any household appliance. What is she going to do?

What I say:
Wonderful! This book had me laughing out loud! The tricky situations Samantha finds herself stuck in, and the way she copes - or not - are so incredibly funny. This is chick lit at its best (to me, much better than the 'Shopaholic' series).
You cannot help but identify. Your heart will sink when Samantha is in real trouble, and you will feel indignation when she is badly treated. Of course there is also romance in the book. I am quite sure there's going to be a movie based on it one of these days!

The title I would have given it, had my name been Jane Austen: Law and Cleanup
